Kira Buckland was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. From an early age she was passionate about performing; by age 11 or 12 she already knew she wanted to entertain and originally aspired to become a rock singer. In high school Buckland became deeply interested in Japanese culture, especially anime, video games, and the Japanese language, and around age 16 she realized that voice acting would allow her to combine these passions.
During her senior year at West Anchorage High School, Buckland served as president of the school’s anime club. She and her clubmates organized Senshi-Con, the first anime convention in Alaska, on the West High School campus. This convention was founded because there were no nearby anime events; as Buckland later explained, long-distance travel was prohibitively expensive, so she and her friends created a local convention to serve Anchorage’s anime community.
After graduating high school, Buckland attended the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). There she helped establish the UAA Anime Club and continued to promote Japanese pop culture. Buckland graduated from UAA in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese languages.

Kira Buckland began her voice acting journey in 2004 by contributing to online animations and independent game projects. She gained experience and exposure by voicing characters in Newgrounds flash cartoons and YouTube series under a pseudonym. Building on this grassroots work, Buckland co-founded the Voice Acting Club in the mid-2000s an online community for aspiring voice actors that later grew to tens of thousands of members.
In 2011 she relocated from Alaska to Los Angeles to pursue voice acting professionally, taking classes and gradually landing roles. By the late 2010s Buckland had transitioned to full-time voice work, steadily moving from small side projects to major anime and video game roles.
Kira Buckland’s career grew as she secured prominent voice roles across anime and games. In video games she is best known as the English voice of 2B in NieR:Automata, and she played key parts like Trucy Wright in the Ace Attorney series. In anime she voiced Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Mitsuri Kanroji in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and extended her range to characters such as Kuki Shinobu in Genshin Impact and Beatrice in Re:Zero.
Her other notable credits span a variety of series and genres for example, she has voiced Hiyoko Saionji and Kirumi Tojo in Danganronpa, Mary Saotome in Kakegurui, and characters in Charlotte, Pokémon, Soulcalibur VI, and Street Fighter V. Each of these roles increased her visibility in the industry and demonstrated her versatility as a performer.
Over the years Buckland has accumulated a broad catalog of work and industry recognition. She helped nurture the next generation of talent by founding Voice Acting Club, and by 2018 voice acting became her sole profession. In 2021 she reached a career milestone by landing the role of Jolyne Cujoh in the official English dub of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, a part she had long aspired to play.
By that time Buckland was credited with hundreds of character voices in anime and games worldwide. She regularly appears as a guest at major conventions, engaging directly with fans and cementing her reputation as a leading English dub artist.
Buckland continues to secure new projects in anime and gaming. In 2024 she voiced Ann in the anime adaptation of Sand Land and Haruka Rutaka in the Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture film. She is also part of the English cast for high-profile ongoing series, including Tower of God (Season 2) and upcoming titles like Sakamoto Days and Blue Box (both in 2025).
In video games, she remains active too for example, continuing as the voice of Kuki Shinobu in Genshin Impact and taking on new characters in releases by major studios. These recent roles build on her established career and show that Buckland remains a sought-after voice talent in the anime and gaming industry.
